Course Overview:

This 6-week course is designed for crafters who want to learn the basics of vector graphic editing to create custom designs for cutting machines, print projects, and other crafting applications. Students will explore essential vector graphic tools and techniques, using CorelDRAW as the primary software while allowing flexibility for those using Inkscape or Cricut Design Space.

Course Outline:

Week 1: Introduction to Vector Graphics

  • What is a vector graphic? How does it differ from raster images?
  • Understanding vector properties: paths, nodes, fills, and strokes
  • Overview of different vector graphic editors

Week 2: Basic Drawing and Editing Tools

  • Creating shapes and lines
  • Resizing, rotating, and aligning objects
  • Using the selection tool for editing

Week 3: Working with Nodes and Paths

  • Understanding node types (corner, smooth, symmetrical)
  • Editing nodes to refine shapes
  • Converting basic shapes into custom designs

Week 4: Adding and Customizing Text

  • Inserting and formatting text
  • Converting text to curves for custom designs
  • Applying effects like warping, outlines, and shadows

Week 5: Applying Color and Fills

  • Understanding solid colors, gradients, and patterns
  • Using color fills and stroke properties
  • Layering colors for multi-layered designs

Week 6: Combining and Modifying Objects

  • Grouping, attaching, and welding objects
  • Using slice and flatten tools
  • Preparing designs for cutting machines and printing
